Artist, writer, and educator

KAO Chien Hui 高千惠
is an artist, educator, art critic, curator, writer, and traveler whose interests include modern art history, the sociology of art, contemporary Asian art, curatorial practices, aesthetics and ideology, and cultural criticism. She is author of many books, most recently: Force of Resistance—Origins of Gender in Art and Atypical Aesthetics, Captive Flames: Six Stories of Women in Art at the Turn of Modernization, and Out of Bounds─Poetic Visions of the Living World in Ink Art. She was a visiting scholar at Montclair State University; guest associate professor at Tunghai University in Taiwan; University Fellow at Hong Kong Baptist University; and associate professor of the Graduate Institute of Interdisciplinary Art at National Kaohsiung Normal University; visiting professor in the Department of Sculpture at the National Taiwan University of Arts; and visiting professor of the Doctoral Program in Art Creation and Theory at Tainan National University of the Arts. Currently, she is writing and drawing every day.
